Beyond the Surface: the impact of internal activity on roof replacement
Why your building’s use affects roof replacement
Did you know:
What goes on inside your building should directly impact what goes on your roof.
Let’s explore why that’s true and what you should expect from a professional roofing contractor.
Your Roofing System – Analyzed
As we’ve discussed in other blogs and videos, roofing systems on commercial buildings come in many shapes and solutions. The most basic three-part membrane version resembles a sandwich cookie with decking as one cookie, insulation as the middle frosting, and the roof membrane as the outer cookie. As the first roof on your building aged, it’s possible that a second layer of cookie was added on top without first removing the older, existing roofing system.
As your commercial roofing partner, we’re first going to investigate what roofing systems exist on your building. It’s our job to analyze exactly what’s going on.
There may be some areas with more insulation than others. Many buildings have areas where the roofing membrane is able to be mechanically fastened to the deck, while other areas of the same building we find it dangerous or impossible to secure to the deck.
These variations are often explained by what’s going on inside your building. Cold storage or freezer space requires different considerations than office space. You may have conduit or piping supporting a manufacturing process present in one area of the warehouse, but those pipes don’t run the full length of the building. Commercial roofing experts will create custom solutions that take into consideration the needs and use of your building.
Additionally, what you create inside your building will help determine which type of roofing material is best for your building.
