Helping Hands Community Projects

Helping Hands roofing projects started in 1987 with our first community project. When a group of our staff decided to volunteer their time and materials to re-roof the cabins at the Christine Center, we knew that feeling, that sense of purpose, was something we’d value for many years to come.

Since then, we’ve been giving back to the communities we live and work in a few times each year.

We’ve had the opportunity to install new roofs on houses for families and provide repairs for individuals with a variety of stories like a child fighting cancer, and extreme storm damage on a retired couple’s home.

Since 1983, we’ve also helped in more ways than just roofing. Every November we donate hundreds of turkeys to community organizations that support families in need. In 2020, we donated over 700 turkeys across Wisconsin!

Helping Hands 2021

This year, the GLRC staff selected three organizations to support our volunteer efforts. The Germantown branch of Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin, and Harbor House.

Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin is a nonprofit with a mission to assist homeless and at-risk veterans by providing food, shelter, and basic needs with dignity and respect. This project allowed our entire staff to participate in building the community. We performed a supplies drive to support VOW’s free grocery store. Our staff delivered, sorted, and shelved the donations.

Harbor House is a shelter and community resource for people leaving abusive relationships. This Helping Hands project in Appleton, WI coincided with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which provided a great opportunity to echo the mission of the nonprofit.

Our staff collaborated with our corporate partner, Keller Inc. to donate bedding for new residents of Harbor House.

Turkey Donations

Every year during Thanksgiving time, Great Lakes Roofing gives away hundreds of turkeys to families in need. The giveaway was started in 1983 as a part of the company’s Helping Hands program, an ongoing initiative to give back to the communities we live and work in. Over the years, Great Lakes Roofing Corp. has donated thousands of turkeys to hungry families to ensure they have a nice meal for the holiday season.

In 2020, we donated over 700 turkeys.
In 2021, we donated at over 50 different locations.
