Helping Hands Community Projects
Helping Hands roofing projects started in 1987 with our first community project. When a group of our staff decided to volunteer their time and materials to re-roof the cabins at the Christine Center, we knew that feeling, that sense of purpose, was something we’d value for many years to come.
Since then, we’ve been giving back to the communities we live and work in a few times each year.
We’ve had the opportunity to install new roofs on houses for families and provide repairs for individuals with a variety of stories like a child fighting cancer, and extreme storm damage on a retired couple’s home.
Since 1983, we’ve also helped in more ways than just roofing. Every November we donate hundreds of turkeys to community organizations that support families in need. In 2020, we donated over 700 turkeys across Wisconsin!
Adopted Ronald McDonald House Chapters
In 2017, members of the Roofing Alliance committed to adopting all 165 chapters of Ronald McDonald House Charities around the nation. RMHC is a nonprofit that supports improved health and well-being of children and their families. They aim to keep families close together where they can also be close to medical care. These locations serve as a second home with private rooms, toy rooms, kitchens (and teams of volunteers serving meals), and the opportunity to be near a hospital without sleeping at the hospital or a hotel every night. The Madison House also has a mobile care unit that brings pediatric healthcare and dentistry to rural communities in surrounding counties.
We are dedicated to servicing these roofs for any of their needs, large or small; using our roofing skills to provide a warm, dry building for community members during their times of need.

This year’s Helping Hands projects have history.
Our Crew in Appleton has been working with our commercial reroof recipient for many months to determine an optimized custom project to meet their needs, their goals and their budget.
Aspiro has been serving the greater Green Bay area since 1957. They continue to create opportunities for people experiencing disabilities to live their best lives. The nonprofit’s scope of services has grown along with their building and roofing needs. We look forward to supporting their mission through commercial reroof project.
The second Helping Hands project is a series of repairs to a rec center on the campus of Camp American Legion in Lake Tomahawk. – Supporting Wisconsin’s servicemembers and their families through recreation and retreats, this special collection of cabins and communal buildings also needs a little upkeep of its own.
Turkey Donations
Every year during Thanksgiving time, Great Lakes Roofing gives away hundreds of turkeys to families in need. The giveaway was started in 1983 as a part of the company’s Helping Hands program, an ongoing initiative to give back to the communities we live and work in. Over the years, Great Lakes Roofing Corp. has donated thousands of turkeys to hungry families to ensure they have a nice meal for the holiday season.
In 2020, we donated over 700 turkeys.
In 2021, we donated at over 50 different locations.
When a local bar owner passed away from cancer, his grieving family was saddled with both medical bills and a desperate need for repairs at the bar. GLRC staff heard their story, and stepped in to help. Read more…
