2021 Recap
2021 Helping Hands Projects
Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin
Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin (Racine) is a nonprofit with a mission to assist homeless and at-risk veterans by providing food, shelter, and basic needs with dignity and respect. They operate a 15-home tiny village that meets a veteran where they’re at and helps coordinate customized services and support. In August 2021 we re-roofed their community center in a two-day project. This project allowed our entire staff to participate in building the community. We performed a community supplies drive to support VOW’s free grocery store. Our staff delivered, sorted, and shelved the donations.
It is an honor to support VOW’s mission of being a hero to a hero. We appreciate the work they pour into southeastern Wisconsin and how they’re effecting the national narrative on supporting military veterans.
Harbor House
Harbor House (Appleton) is a shelter and community resource for people leaving abusive relationships. They’re on a mission to help communities be free of domestic abuse through safety, knowledge and engagement. Some of the most important work Harbor House does is talk about what healthy relationships can look like, so community members can better recognize unhealthy relationships. They also offer a safe place to reside, support groups, access to services, and educational opportunities.
This Helping Hands project coincided with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which provided a great opportunity to echo the mission of the nonprofit. Our staff collaborated with our corporate partner Keller Inc. to donate bedding for new residents at Harbor House. Beyond the bedding and monetary donations, we also reroofed 4 of their 5 sections of the building to ensure the residents and visitors have a dry, safe place to call home.
Community Outreach
Great Lakes Roofing completes more Helping Hands projects than we can showcase. These two projects were larger, all-staff efforts that extended beyond just roofing and allowed us to echo and support the mission of the nonprofit.
Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of reroofing and repairing homes for individuals, churches, nonprofits, and more. We enjoy finding opportunities to use our skills to build community.
